thing about the NFL of today is that you need 2 good solid running backs. You don't need one big star running back. Where are all of the single back teams at? sitting at home watching the Superbowl.
If you have a 1,600 yrd rusher that is great but is it any better than if you have 2 guys who combine for 1,800? It keeps the RB's fresh and in the later part of games they are better shape than the defense. I think that is just today's NFL. anywhere TJ goes it is about 95% going to be a 2 back system. might as well stay in Chicago if they will give him the money (i say they won't)
And the comment about TJ getting some miles on him, I just dont see yet. how much was he used in his first 4 years in the league? Remember when the Raiders pretty much sat Marcus Allen and they say that prolonged his playing days because of those years "not playing" for the Raiders. I think TJ is in the same spot. The first 4 years were more like 1 1/2 he was used so little.

What i seen Sunday. Was Thomas the team player and Benson just playing.
It's about who has and can get the job done. Thomas did it last year and most of this year.

Benson is not reliable. Heck he has not even played a full season since he has been at Chicago.

What if Benson wakes up Feb. 4th and decides he's not exactly in the mood to play that day.
To me you stay with who brought you. If they want Benson use him as he is being used, kind of like how the Giants used Jacobs the 6'7 270 lb running back.
Their D and Thomas has been what got the Bears to where they are. That can't be denied.
Take Thomas out of the picture this year and ask yourself a question.
With Benson there. Would the Bears be where they are?

Benson can play. Anyone who follows college football knows that. He was a manchild at Texas. FOllowing the accomplishments of Ricky Williams, he stepped up.
I dont think its as much a knock on TJ, as it is a reality, the 2 back system works, regardless who starts or runs more at first. They are in the superbowl, TJ had a 123 yds and 2 TDS. Id do everything to keep them both, they both have more money then they will ever spend, look at the Bus last year, he would have just about played for free to get that ring, it wouldnt have happened unless he had comes to terms with that, Id say he wouldnt have got it.

I just don't understand all the we need to get rid of TJ to keep Benson.
Don't make no sense. You have a great tandem right now. Sure up a few other things and you have 4-5 years of a great team. Bring in some back up's for the aging players on the O and D. Sure up the future at a lower cost.
You don't have to have a number 1 pick to be a number 1 player. How many times has the number 1 pick not come through.
All i see the Bears need to do is review tapes of games they lost and see how and why they lost.
Like i said i think Benson is a good back. Just not proven and with the tandem of TJ and Benson. A healthy line, Grossman some more maturing and learning and that D.
Well it would look awful bright for a few years in Chicago.

Completely 100% wrong.

The salary cap is amortorized over a period of time. While Chicago is 25 million under the cap right now, that includes years after this year. You have to look at guys not only this year that they have to resign, but in the year after.

They have vasher, tillman, grossman, tommie harris, and bernard berrien all under rookie contracts. The bears are winning as cheap as probabably any team in the history of football. 3 out of the 5 are pro bowlers who are going to commande HUGE signing bonuses and long term contracts just like Benson has. Briggs and Harris may break the bank, and Tillman is the most important player in the secondary, probably a guy that deserved to make the pro bowl. Youre looking at 125 million dollars in contracts between those 3 guys over the next 6 years or so. Urlacher said he would restructure his contract to resign Briggs but every penny is going to count. You have to throw in the rookie pool as well as part of the cap. When that kind of money gets thrown around, you have to make some tough decisions and you look at the running back position and Chicago has 25 million dollars tied up in that position, thats what youre not understanding. The bears have been successful because Jerry Angelo and Ted Phillips are great with the salary cap, they are the anti daniel snyders.

Uh he played the full 16 games this year. Got carries in 15 of them and was the first one to meet TJ on the sidelines to give him high 5 when they beat the vikings in the game he didnt get any carries. He did miss some of his rookie season with a sprained MCL but if you had seen the play, youd be amazed that he didnt tear every ligament in his knee. If youd bother to go back and read the positives/negatives about Benson in college, you would see that the biggest positive and reason why Angelo selected him was because of his DURABILITY. Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams split carries, Williams missed alot of time in college and Benson was their logical choice.

Im glad TJ is from BSG and glad hes on my team. I do think the Bears could do better at running back but I think they could do alot worse too. I think I know MY team a little bit better than you do and I think I will always cheer for my team wheather or not TJ is there or not. I was closer to Julius than probably anyone on this board and hope he does well, but if Julius was on my team, Id probably be clamoring for Bryan Westbrook, Stephen Jackson, or Frank Gore. You want your team to be as good as they can be. Its nothing personal, its the fact that there are better players out there and I trust the bears organization to make the right decisions because they have made the right decisions time and time again.

Go back to draft day 2005, Every bears fan and their mother wanted Mike Williams, including myself and Diets. Williams is one of the biggest busts in draft history and Benson has at least proven to be solid. I respect Jerry Angelo, he knows his stuff and hes been a winner everywhere hes been. He put the 02 Bucs superbowl team together as well.

Its silly to even discuss this with you though since you think TJ won a rushing title, man talk about being an uninformed homer.

If Benson was the main man for the Bears in the I this year, would they be in the Superbowl.

Had Benson been the feature back all year. The Bears wouldn't of been where they are now.
